LaSalle Community Garden was started in 1997 from two rundown vacant lots. It is located on either side of The Coyle apartment building at 1801 LaSalle Avenue just south of 94. Approximately 45 plots are available for rent in this garden, including a wheelchair-accessible bed. In 1999, students from the University of Minnesota Landscape Architecture program designed and built several unique and beautiful architectural elements for the garden, including the wheelchair bed, a wood and metal half-shade structure, and an elaborate watering system of a 20-foot aqueduct and spinning waterwheel. The garden has fully matured flower and herb beds, a prairie patch, tool shed and compost bins.
